From 1979 it is on UNESCO’s list of World heritage, and city’s prosperity is based on sea trade from the medievals times. In mentioned period it existed as Dubrovnik Republic – only city-state on east coast of Adriatic beside Republic of Venice, it’s main rival. The city walls are the world famous site, complemented with typical Mediterranean narrow streets, town’s main promenade Stradun, Church St.Blaise city’s patron saint and Orlando’s Column.
TOUR DESCRIPTION
After a beautiful ride along the Adriatic Coast we will start our tour of Dubrovnik with a visit to the promenade in Stradun for your first impression of one of the Mediterranean’s most beautiful cities and its astonishing stone walls that extend over 1,940 meters (6,500 feet). Admire the monumental fortifications and city gates, before wandering the labyrinthine streets behind the ramparts. Almost entirely pedestrianized, the medieval town is a treasure trove of architectural gems. See columned porticoes and loggias fringing Renaissance squares of marble. Marvel at the 11th-century Town Hall, and go to Sponza Palace, notable for its elaborate stone carvings. Take in views of the Baroque Cathedral, and see the magnificent Treasury. Continue to the fortress-like Dominican Monastery and Baroque Church of St Blaise. Visit the Rector’s Palace of the glorious Republic of Dubrovnik, and marvel at its harmonious blend of Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque architecture. After a city tour we will take you to a beautiful restaurant where you can try some of dalmatian specialties! You will then have 3 hours free for some shopping or you can just relax at the beautiful beach near the Centre of Dubrovnik . Taste delicious Mediterranean wine at the taverns of the Old City, ending with a coffee in Stradun, and buy some of the traditional filigree jewellery, or a bronze statuette of St. Blaise to remind you of your day in Dubrovnik, before the return transfer to Split.
